I already had "cloyingly sweet" in my mind, and then I saw another review that mentioned the same phrase. Yep. It's syrupy, a little sickeningly sweet, and it overpowers most blends I've tried to make with it. That said, it's not a *bad* scent - used sparingly, it can work to add a nice dimension to a fragrance. Purchased in SOS concentration....

This is cloyingly sweet. I was hoping this would have a dried tobacco smell but it smells like maple syrup! My grandpa used to smoke tobacco in a pipe and this smells nothing what I remember his old pipes smelling like. I will continue my search. on a positive note this oil is STRONG and a few drops will overpower any blend you add it to. purchase in ultra for perfume blending....

Never ordered before today. Free sample. 1 oz SOS is very strong. I make incense and people been asking for a tobacco or pipe scent. This is what SOS has in fragrances. Strong and willing to give this try..... will reorder when sold out.... like this.... smells like pipe after a rainy day...

Fairly strong smell of honey and chocolate with rum-soaked tobacco leaves like you'd find in the pouch section of the cigar shop. It does remind me pretty powerfully of that moist, super sweet and rich tobacco, but the honey sweet takes over so completely that it's a little too much for me and it's lasting power is AMAZING, especially since I wanted it off me. I mix perfumes, and this would take over the whole universe. I'd say reserve it for man candles and toiltries, or mix it without mercy with florals. Not for me, but well done. I tried the sniffie....

I was not a big fan of this. The sniffee I ordered does resemble pipe tobacco a lot, but it also has a slight urine type back ground to it. This would be fun to use in a candle or soap and call it "Dirty old man". LOL...

Sniffie size. Sniffed from the vial it's spot on moist tobacco from the pouch or can. Brings back childhood memories from when my father smoked a pipe. Dry down is still very pleasant. Straight up is good but blended with a bit of vanilla, blackberry or cherry, it would be wonderful for a winter scent....

SOS candlemaking. Not a smoker at all, but boy, this one is a sweet tobacco, reminds me of the chop chop rollies my friend's mum used to smoke. She always soaked it in a bit of rum and dried it out before smoking, and this fragrance is definitely like that sweet alcohol tobacco. Great grounder in blends....

I don't smoke personally, but my friend rolls her own cigarettes and she said this smells just like bag tobacco. This to me smells a bit sweeter than you would find when smelling a cigarette, like an actual tobacco leaf. I remember as a kid growing up my father picking tobacco in Kentucky and this reminds me of it. Very nice, a best seller! (extreme concentration)...

I absolutely love this fragrance. I bought the SOS for a soy candle. Blended with cherrywood. A sweet, almost chocolaty result. It's a sweet scent, not smoky, and it was just what I was looking for after trying 5 other "pipe smoke' or "pipe tobacco" scents from other companies....

UPDATE I made a 4 oz candle with the sample and it smell exactly like DW home warm tobacco pipe candle from tj maxx/Marshalls. The cherry vanilla scent is gone.

Received as a sniffie sample, opens with a slight cherry/vanilla. The dry down is tobacco leaf without the opening scents. Nice but would love it more without the opening scents.

There's no mistake what this is.. you can tell the name of it before you even read the name on the sniffie. It has a strong floral smell though. I wonder what it would be like if it was cherry pipe tobacco!! Now that would probably smell awesome!...

(Ex.Con.) Very strong OOTB! This smells more like sweet chewing tobacco rather than pipe tobacco. The word I would use to describe this is chewy. It smells a little smokey almost like benzoin. There is a butterscotch nuance with that unmistakable nose-tickling, deep, decaying leaves note that is typical of moist tobacco.
I recommend diluting all SOS extreme concentrate scents down to at least 20% (fragrance to alcohol or oil) to get a better sense of how each scent truly smells....

I love the depth of this fragrance and use it in blends to add complexity. It does remind me of pipe tobacco and is fairly versatile. Use it around 8% in soy candles.

This scent is a deep rich scent and has hints of cherry to it. I was hoping for more of a black tobacco scent overall but this scent isn't bad. It is definitely masculine! This scent is going to be used in soy wax and tarts and was bought as the regular concentrate....

I received 4 scents and as usual the oil based perfumes were all clear except for pipe tobacco which was cloudy. Now I am unsure what the cloudiness means as far as perfume goes but it is the strongest most potent perfume I have in my whole collection of perfumes even stronger than Angel Men.There is however an upside as I love potent elixors so I get a really strong, sticky, burnt yet sweet tobacco and a beautiful wood burning pipe smell like burning mahogany. All it takes is a couple of sprays and it fills a whole room and lasts the whole day but I think that's due to my bottle being cloudy and probably having more perfume in it than clear pipe tobacco....

I got this some time back. I got it in standard . I happen to think it is a nice addition for my some of my men's cologne ...some men like it and some dont...but I happen to love the sweet smoky tone it leaves in the back ground.. I like it playing lightly around ....

I wear the oil regularly, and I have to say, I think it smells like straight up waffles. Not too much like maple syrup, but waffles is a great way to describe it. I love it. I got the sample of the SOS concentration, and I apply it directly to my pulse points....

i definitely smell raw, in the pouch tobacco...it even has the tickly "goes up my nose" feeling the way tobacco in the pouch does. :) mixed it with firewood to make a more smoky tobacco scent...used sos concentration in unscented conditioner...

Doesn't smell exactly like pipe tobacco to me, I smell the sweet, stickiness of tobacco with roasted walnut and a hint of brandy. I am giving this 4 stars because still, I think it has really great depth and richness for enhancing masculine blends. I purchased the xc-extreme, and its nice and strong....

Extreme concentrate for blended oils and incense. Very strong fragrance which tends to dominate a blend. Use sparingly and then add if you need to. It also has very good longevity. The sweet smoky flavor of pipes is very clear. It makes a nice alternative to sandalwood or teak wood is you are looking to deepen a blend. Again, beware. It is very strong....

Very potent at SOS concentration. Smells like a rich, dried fruit tobacco with great longevity and sillage is very good too. I am planning to use it as a base note in an oriental fragrance; or even as a ground for a rich gourmand composition. Should give some very interesting dimensions....

My sample arrived of it today. I didn't think it smelled exactly like pipe tobacco, not quite as rich. I did think it was a nice smell though, and I think it would blend well in cologne. It was sort of masculine....

I'm a definite fan of this one. It smells exactly like my empty pipe! I'm not getting the heavy caramel notes that other reviewers experienced. It's a deep, mellow definite tobacco scent. Used in soap and perfume oils....
