How do I order samples?
Our samples sizes are our 1 oz. sizes which are purchased online. When you
click on the fragrance name, you will be presented with the available optons,
among which will be the different sizes. Our oils come in 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 oz. on up.
To order the sample sized 1 oz. fragrance oil, just select the appropriate box and
add the item to your cart. You can also upgrade your sample size accordingly. To offset the inconvenience
of having to "order" samples, we do have a program where every $75 spent entitles you to 4 free 1 oz. SOS samples. That way you can see what other oils you may find suitable to you without having to pay for them.
Why are you suggesting I buy sample
sizes first?
Fragrance oils come in all concentrations, can be used for
hundreds of applications, and vary from company to company. For
these very reasons, it is of utmost importance to purchase sample
sizes prior to purchasing larger sizes. Purchasing test sizes
ensure the following:
- 1) That the fragrance is what you expect. Even vanillas vary
from company to company.
- 2) That the strength is what you expect. We have three concentrations
so it is up to you to figure out what strength of oil fits your
needs.
- 3) That the fragrance oil
will work in your application.
Also, many don't realize that smelling
a fragrance out of the bottle (OOB) is NOT the most
accurate way of determining fragrance quality or scent character. The ONLY
accurate way is to test it by one or more of the following:
1) put it on your skin for
body oils and experience the "dry down" phases and
tenacity (longevity)
2) put it on a test trip or blotter and experience the "dry
down" phases and tenacity (longevity)
3) test it in your product to see if the results are what you
expected.
Also by purchasing samples, you will protect yourself if it
ever became apparent that you feel an oil was shipped to you
in error. By comparing a later
bottle with a previously obtained sample size and finding that it is different,
you have a valid argument for receiving adequate compensation, a replacement, or both. Due to the countless applications and recipes, we cannot be held responsible for oils that haven't been tested.
Why do you not take back returns?
It is in the best interest of fragrance
companies and their customers to ensure that they
DO NOT accept returns as a policy. You may want to question the integrity of a company that does as they cannot guarantee
the oil arrives in the same condition it left -- and therefore unusable. Any testing for purity would be far too costly. It is not uncommon for unauthorized
returns to show up suddenly, where the customer had fragrance
poured out, used or sold some of it and poured in other substances, only then to attempt to send it back without authorization and demand a
full refund. While we do not like to think of every customer this way,
fragrance companies need to be prudent and protect themselves and
other consumers from this. The only way to do it is to NOT accept
returns at all, unless fully authorized. This is
to ensure the freshness of each fragrance oil. Authorized returns
are either replaced or fully credited back to the customer, shipping
included.
When is a return authorized?
If and only if it is our error AND we need it
back for testing. This is extremely rare. For the most part,
customers keep the oils and just receive a replacement, credit or both. With
regard to companies that do take back returns UNconditionally,
you may wish to question what is done with the fragrance once
it is returned. It would be akin to a restaurant taking back
a food item and then giving it to someone else. Even if they claim
they do not, there would (and should) always be a suspicion.
That is why we and many professional fragrance companies do not
allow returns except under extreme situations.
Many customers have asked how Save On Scents, Inc. can guarantee
customer satisfaction while not accepting returns. Ensuring customer
satisfaction doesn't necessarily mean that we must take back
fragrance oils. There are other ways of compensation, a replacement,
credit, or both. However, if an oil was not sampled prior to
ordering larger sizes, then the liablility falls back to the customer.
So always remember to Test! Test! Test! We know you work hard for your money, so
protect yourself and spend it on something you are sure to be happy with.
