The Oriental Accord embodies the themes from the East that can be traced back to the 1800's. As Eastern cultures became known in the west, people became aware and intrigued by not just the clothing, food, music, etc., but also the exotic perfumes from the area, which were rich, sensual, deep and shrouded in mystery. They were completely new. A wealth of full, thick, heavy, full-bodied aromas emerged derived from plants and tree resins, herbs, spices, woods, from areas such as Greece, Egypt, Rome, Mesopotamia, etc., made their way on the seas to the west, which in themselves had influences from other parts of the Middle East and Asia. The tones of frankincense, myrrh, cardamom, cinnamon, patchouli, sandalwood made their first appearances and were welcomed enthusiastically. It is no wonder that these scents have become staples in other accord types as tones and accents. The more modern Orientals were expanded farther with the invention of coumarin, civet and vanillin synthetics. The grandfather and grandmother of them all: Shalimar for women and Emeraude for women respectively.
