Rose Absolute: Rosa damascena Mill - Turkish origin. We have made Rose Absolute available in lower minimum volumes than many of our other oils due to the high expense of this top quality pure and natural fragrance material. Luckily, a small amount of Rose Absolute goes a very long way in a fragrance formula.
What is an absolute? An absolute is similar to an essential oil, in that it is a natural extraction of highly concentrared aromatic oils from plants. Whereas essential oils are extracted through the use of distillation, boiling or pressing, absolutes are produced by solvent extraction. Extraction & Composition Damask rose flowers are harvested during May & June, early in the morning to maintain a high concentration of active aromatics. Using a rotating motion, pickers detach the flower heads from their bases. Once harvested, the flowers are processed quickly to avoid damaging their delicate petals. Hexane extraction of the fresh flowers produces the concrete (a thick concentrate of material), which is then washed with alcohol to obtain the absolute. It takes 881 lbs of fresh flowers to make 1 lb of Rose Absolute. This is a yield of just 0.13%. This precious rose absolute has intoxicating rosy notes accented by spicy facets.
