As one could logically predict, The Wood Accord serves as the solid foundation and base from which all other notes build to compose a complex fragrance blend. A good and strong wood accord doesn't overpower the top and heart notes, but accents them and finishes them on the dry down.  Whether dark woods, like pine, oak or maple, or light woods like sandalwood, bamboo or cedar, wood accords add dimension through their character, i.e., warmth, smokiness, creaminess, to a composition and sometimes even aid in the longevity of the fragrance mixture.
